Boxun News (peacehall.com and boxun.com) was launched in March 2000 from its origin as a weekly online magazine.
From the beginning Boxun has been using the model of "Citizen Journalism" and now Boxun is the most popular citizen journalist Chinese online news service. Boxun's traffic is ranked with the top Chinese online news sites. It's operational model makes Boxun the only online Chinese news service which is updated 24/7.
Boxun covers five major areas:
1) Peacehall.com - News and BBS;
2) Boxun.com/blog - Blog: The Boxun blog is one of the earliest Chinese blogs, and counts among its bloggers almost all of the famous Chinese writers living abroad.
3) NEW: Boxun.us - English Language contents of Boxun. Re-launched with new design in November 2006.
4) NEW: Boxun.tv - It will be a video community site like YouTube.com. But Boxun.tv publishes Boxun's copyrighted TV programms in addition to videos uploaded by users.
5) Other sites under the same entity are in development.
1) Is Boxun anti-Chinese government?
Before answer this question, ask yourself: Are CNN, FOX or NY Times and hundreds of media in the USA anti-US government?
Then you have the answer for Boxun. If a media in USA can say "Bush should be a criminal because of Iraq war" - a
very questionable claim, then why Boxun cannot report corruptions and many true incidents in China?
2) What can you do to support Boxun?
Boxun's influence and popularity are exceeding many people's imagination. You can find footprints of many heros in Boxun.
For example, Li Changqing - department director in FuZhou Daily (an official newspaper) revealed the Denge fever incident in FuZhou when local government tried to cover the incident up.
Mr. Li was charged by sending false information and was sentenced three years in prison, though the government admitted the Dengge fever later.
Another hero is Yu Bi, who died in the Tsunami in 2004. Yu Bi tried to help farmers abused by police, then he was wanted by police and lived as a refugee, some time like a beggar.
He sent reports to Boxun in difficult situation and escaped China to Malaysia in late October 2004, he died in December 26, 2004.
There are many samples like this. They are normal people with kind hearts.
Boxun is based in the USA, but we must admit that we have not been successful to find support for those heros in difficulty.
As the #1 (may the only one) citizen journalist Chinese online news service, Boxun does have its commercial value. Unfortunately, Boxun's pursuing "Journalistic Objectivity" shy away potential investors.
When Ohmynews got $11 million investment in March 2006, its traffic rank was well behind Boxun news even though Boxun is blocked in China.
Boxun is a brand and it will grow in its popularity. We continue to grow on our own and welcome investors to join us.
